Betsy Ross comes to life at the Doylestown Library

Posted

The Friends of the Doylestown Library and the Doylestown Historical Society invite the community to step back in time for a first-person portrayal of Betsy Ross—upholsterer, flag-maker, mother, and wife—whose efforts helped further the American Revolution, Sunday, May 18 at 2 pm at the Doylestown Library. Admission is free.

The presentation, “Betsy Ross: Upholsterer, Flag Maker and Patriot,” is a first-person reenactment presented by Alison Dupuy, of First Ladies of History, and will emphasize the real history behind Betsy Ross. “My friend Ben Franklin convinced me to portray Betsy Ross, and after researching her history, I thought ‘Why don’t I know any of this?’ She did have a hand in the creation of our flag, just not in the way most people think, but this shouldn’t diminish her legacy!” commented Dupuy.

Dupuy taught French in the Princeton School District for over 25 years, was an adjunct professor at Lafayette College, is fluent in five languages, and is a widely acclaimed storyteller. Due to limited seating, please preregister by emailing friendsofdoylestownlibrary@gmail.com.

The Friends of the Doylestown Library is a non-profit organization, supporting the Doylestown Library, which strives to align its programs to the five literacies of PA Forward, the Pennsylvania Library Association’s 21st Century Literacies Initiative.
