The Washington Crossing chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) held its dinner meeting on Tuesday, February 10 at Giuseppe’s Restaurant in Richboro to celebrate the 294th anniversary of George Washington’s birth.  Mr. Michael C. Harris was the guest speaker and gave a presentation on “The Battle for the Delaware, 1777”.

Mr. Harris’s first book, ”Brandywine”, was awarded the American Revolution Round Table of Richmond Book Award in 2014.  His recent book is “The Fighting for Philadelphia: Forts Mercer and Mifflin, the Battle of Whitemarsh, and the “Road to Valley Forge, October 5 – December 19, 1777”.  This book is the first complete study to merge the strategic, political, and tactical history of the complex operations sandwiched between the Battle of Germantown and the arrival of the Continental Army at Valley Forge.  He has also conducted tours and staff rides of many East Coast battlefields.

Mr. Harris was honored by the Chapter at the dinner meeting with the SAR Bronze Good Citizenship Medal and Certificate.  The medal and certificate awarded by Chapter President Steven Ware and First Vice President Michael Borish were for Mr. Harris’s writings about major battles in the American Revolution.  His work supports the SAR’s goals and objectives through his contributions to the community related to education and history.

The Chapter is grateful for his service to our community perpetuating the story of Revolutionary War life through his historical research and educational programs, two purposes of the SAR.
