Friends of the Doylestown Library hosts open “mic” poetry, local author programs

The Friends of the Doylestown Library will host two free programs in May at the Doylestown Library, 150 S. Pine St.

Open ‘Mic’ Poetry, Thursday, May 15, 6:30 pm: Poets of all ages are invited to read their work in an atmosphere that respects all readers during an Open “Mic” Poetry Reading. Moderated by Dr. Tom Mallouk, Bucks County Poet Laureate Emeritus and author of several books includingThe Write Metaphor, the theme for the evening will be “creating community.” Those wishing to read their work can preregister by emailing FriendsofDoylestownLibrary@gmail.com (walk-ins will be welcome, time permitting). This program supports basic literacy.

To Vietnam and Back 1967-1968, Sunday, May 18, 2 pm: Local author Dolores Cook Raisch will conduct a presentation based on her book, “To Vietnam and Back 1967 - 1968: Letters of Family, Friends, Faith and Love, which narrates a year of wartime letters to a 13-year-old girl from her eldest brother who was drafted into the Army. The book is an intimate family memoir that, through the lifeline of back and forth letters, offers a warmly told story about one soldier’s year in Vietnam and his family anxiously awaiting his return. This program supports civic and social literacy.
